As you all probably know, social media has exploded in popularity in the last couple of years.  As a small business owner or aspiring entrepreneur, you can take advantage of the increased popularity in social networks to market, promote, and brand your business.  In addition, you can also find potential customers as well as people who you can partner with for business ventures.

There are 3 social networking sites that you should look into:

1. Twitter. I'm sure you have all heard of Twitter by now.  If you haven't, Twitter essentially allows you to create short posts that your followers can read.  You can post links to interesting articles, give tips/advice, or just tell people what you've been up to.  There's also a "search" function on Twitter so that you can search for all posts that include the keyword that you are looking for. 

2. Facebook. Facebook has been around longer than Twitter -- by creating a Facebook page, you will be able to gain more exposure to your business.  On Facebook, you can find people who have interests that tie in with your business.  You can also create "groups" that involve your business and ask people to join.  Whenever you have any specials sales or updates, you can just post that information to your group.

3. LinkedIn. LinkedIn is a social network for professionals.  Again, you can use this platform to market and promote your business.  You can also join groups that allow you to network with people who are in the same field as you.  If you are able to network effectively, you may even be able to find new customers.
